Status Quo On Vinyl: A Buyer's Guide For Francis Rossi's Songbook Tour (Heads Down, No Nonsense)

Francis Rossi's Songbook tour hits Perth tonight. Here's our status quo vinyl guide: used Status Quo records in stock now, from On The Level and Rockin' All Over The World to Whatever You Want, graded and ready from our Mansfield record shop.

Francis Rossi is in Perth tonight with Songbook: Quo – Past, Present, Future, then Glasgow, Llandudno, Coventry, Torquay and Bexhill this week, with more dates running into spring 2027. If you're heading out, or just fancy a bit of three-chord therapy at home, this is the status quo vinyl guide: used Status Quo records from our Mansfield crates, hand-graded, photographed as the actual copy, and priced like a petrol fill-up rather than a museum piece.

We're talking second-hand vinyl you can put on before the gig and still hear after it. No inventing "rare" stickers. Just the LPs and a 7" that are in stock as we write.

What is the Francis Rossi Songbook tour?

Songbook: Quo – Past, Present, Future is Rossi's own night of Status Quo classics, deep cuts, a new medley and a bit of chat from the man himself. It's not a full Status Quo band show; it's Francis picking the catalogue he wants to play, with guitarist Andy Brook alongside him. AEG Presents listed the autumn 2026 run through to Bexhill on 10 November, and the tour has already been extended with a further spring 2027 leg. Tonight (Tue 3 Nov 2026) is Perth Concert Hall; Glasgow Pavilion follows on Wednesday.

Handy for vinyl buyers: the set is built around songs that spent decades on Vertigo and Phonogram pressings. If you already own Rockin' All Over The World or Whatever You Want, you're halfway through the homework before the lights go down.

The songs that made the crates worth digging

We're not writing a full discography. Here's the short version of the records you'll see linked below, with chart peaks from the Official Charts Company where we cite them.

Down Down was Status Quo's only UK No. 1 single, and On The Level (the album that carries it) also went to No. 1. If you want one Quo LP that still sounds like a pub turning into a football terrace, start there.

Blue For You topped the UK albums chart in 1976. Mystery Song, Rain and the title track are the ones people shout for; the sleeves on used copies often look like they've been to more gigs than you have.

Rockin' All Over The World (the single, written by John Fogerty) peaked at No. 3 in the UK in late 1977; the album of the same name peaked at No. 5. It's the one non-Quo fans know, which is why clean UK Vertigo copies still move.

Whatever You Want hit No. 4 as a single in 1979; the album peaked at No. 3. Rick Parfitt and Andy Bown's riff still does more work in two minutes than most bands manage in a set.

Living On An Island was the softer follow-up single from the same era and peaked at No. 16. On a 7" it's a three-quid nostalgia hit with none of the "must be a first press" nonsense.

We won't make up values for you. Condition, completeness and a quiet play matter more than any "rare" claim in a listing title. VG is a playable grade when it's graded honestly.

How to check Status Quo vinyl before you buy

Match the catalogue number. Quo UK albums from the mid-70s onwards are mostly Vertigo (spaceship or later labels) and Phonogram. Spine, rear sleeve and centre labels should agree. Our listings show the catalogue code so you can cross-check on Discogs against the actual copy.

Look for the bits that go missing. Printed inners, lyric sheets and gatefolds get lost or swapped. Live and several Vertigo LPs came with printed inners; if the listing says they're there, you're ahead.

Read both grades. We grade vinyl/sleeve. EX vinyl with a G+ sleeve means the record plays well and the cover has had a life. Our vinyl grading guide spells out what VG, VG+ and EX actually mean on the shop floor.

Quiet passages tell the truth. Quo is loud, but intros and fade-outs still show crackle. If you're buying online, trust a shop that photographs the copy you're getting, not a stock shot.

Original vs later press. Some titles ran for years. A later UK press can still sound excellent and cost less than a first. If you care about the exact cut, use the catalogue number and the notes on the listing, not the vibe of the cover photo.

Status Quo in the WholelottaVinyl crates

In stock as we write: all used vinyl, hand-graded and photographed as the actual copy, at our independent record shop in Mansfield.

The hits round-up: Status Quo – 12 Gold Bars LP (QUOTV1, 1979), graded EX/G+, £10. One disc of the big ones on Vertigo. Vinyl is EX, so light marks at most; the sleeve is a honest G+, which is how these greatest-hits covers usually arrive after forty-odd years of denim jackets. Ideal if you want the songs without hunting eight separate albums.

The No. 1 album: Status Quo – On The Level LP (9102002, 1975), graded VG+/VG+, £5. UK Vertigo spaceship press with printed inner and the textured sleeve. Down Down lives here. VG+ on both sides of the grade is about as tidy as used Quo gets at a fiver.

The blue one: Status Quo – Blue For You LP (9102 006), graded VG/G+, £5. The 1976 chart-topper on Vertigo with a printed inner. Vinyl VG, sleeve G+ — expect visible cover wear and a playable disc. (Listing note for us: the title year and press note don't match on this row; we're describing the album and the catalogue on the copy, not inventing a press date.)

The Fogerty cover everyone knows: Status Quo – Rockin' All Over The World LP (9102 014, 1977), graded VG+/G+, £5. UK Phonogram/Vertigo press with printed inner. VG+ vinyl for the anthem; G+ sleeve for the scars of every wedding DJ who ever owned one.

The riff that runs the room: Status Quo – Whatever You Want LP (9102037, 1979), graded VG/VG, £5. Vertigo spaceship, printed inner, UK press. Solid VG copy of the album that still fills beer gardens. Pair it with the 7" below if you want the single on its own.

The loud night out: Status Quo – Live LP (6641580CF, 1977), graded VG+/VG, £5. Gatefold, printed inners, UK Vertigo spaceship press. Quo live is basically the studio albums with more sweat. VG+ vinyl keeps the racket intact.

The early-80s left turn: Status Quo – Just Supposin' LP (6302057, 1980), graded EX/G+, £5. UK Vertigo. What You're Proposing and Lies era. EX vinyl at £5 is the sort of grade that makes us check the sticker twice.

The soft single for the drive home: Status Quo – Living On An Island 7" (6059248, 1979), graded VG/VG, £3. UK Vertigo 7". Peak No. 16, and a calm end to a crate that otherwise refuses to sit still.

Odd format bonus: Status Quo – Fresh Quota 10" (DOW2, 1981), graded EX/G+, £8. UK PRT 10". Not the first Quo record you'd hand a new fan, but a tidy EX disc if you like the weird corners of the catalogue.

A five-record Songbook crate

Short on time before Perth or Glasgow? Grab On The Level, Blue For You, Rockin' All Over The World, Whatever You Want and 12 Gold Bars. That's the Down Down / Mystery Song / Fogerty / Parfitt-Bown spine of the setlist, plus a hits LP for the tracks you forgot you knew. Add the Live gatefold if you're playing it loud enough to annoy the neighbours, and Living On An Island for the taxi home.

Multi-buys, Autumn10 and a proper clean

Buy any three records and 10% comes off the whole crate at checkout, so three £5 LPs come to £13.50. New customers can use Autumn10 for 10% off instead (one code per order). Every record gets a Pro-Ject VC-S3 clean before it's posted (see why choose us), and you can add a Degritter ultrasonic clean for £2; details are on the cleaning service page.

Where these sit in the Quo run

The mid-70s Vertigo albums (On The Level, Blue For You, Rockin' All Over The World, Whatever You Want) are the denim years most people mean when they say Status Quo vinyl. Live captures that band on stage. Just Supposin' nudges into the early 80s. 12 Gold Bars is the cheat-sheet. None of this replaces a night with Rossi talking through the songs, but it'll soundtrack the queue for the merch stand.
